Reading the qualifications

What the abbreviations mean

MB ChB
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery — the core medical degree required to practise as a doctor.
DOH
Diploma in Occupational Health — additional training in workplace health, fitness-for-duty and occupational medicine.
BSc (Hons)
Bachelor of Science (with Honours) — an undergraduate science degree, often completed before medical school.
OBS (SA)
Diploma in Obstetrics (South Africa) — focused training in pregnancy and childbirth care.
Dip. Obst (CMSA)
Diploma in Obstetrics awarded by the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
PGDD
Postgraduate Diploma in Dermatology — focused training in skin conditions and treatment.
Pret / Stell / Wits / UOFS
The university where each qualification was earned — University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University, the University of the Witwatersrand, and the University of the Free State.
